Progressive spring compared to stock and Kawasaki lack of real grease!!!! :(
Well after a full year of owning a bike with poor front suspension it was time for improving. The KLR stock is very bad while braking, tons of dive. To the point of running out of travel. I'm hoping the Progressive springs help this out. You can see in the pic below the stock spring on the right, it's short and evenly coiled. On the left is Progressives, almost double the length and coiled tighter at the bottom.

The manual states 135mm of fluid from the the top of the fork with the spring out and fully compressed. They sell a nice tool that does measuring and removing excessive fluid in one shot. I know I would use this tool like three time in twenty years so I made this simple tool.
Poor bike, all faceless!!
Kawasaki Ticked me off with this!!! Nice rusty, pitted steering races and most likely causing my high speed wobble or weave. I also have this wobble when transitioning the bike through fast turns left to right or vice versa. For now there going to get very well greased and preloaded. Winter will be a perfect time to order and install new bearings and races.

Long six day ride to skyline drive and blue ridge parkway

So about eleven years ago I went out to Deals Gap with my then boss and on my 1995 ZX-9R. I had no clue what the mountains and blind turns were or how to deal with them. I also thought Illinois had lots of turns. Pretty funny!! Since that first trip I want to go back every year.
This trip was different in many ways, BAD weather, very different bikes, and the same people but with there own issues. The picture below is day one at the Lincoln oasis off of I-294/I-80.
The plan was to hit Front Royal at the end of day two, so any farther south would be wasting daylight.
We waited here for a half hour and about five miles down the road all hell broke loose with LARGE hail and big winds. We found shelter at a garden shop with a big over hang to hide under.
The funny part was after getting back on the road we came up behind him and a car in front of him doing 20-25mph. which he pulled him over I think for going too slow.
Peak after peak on the blue ridge parkway.
I like the dog on her lap, if he jumps off at speed would she hold onto the leash??
VIVE UT VIVAS!!
Dinner was expensive but the filet mignon I had was the best I've eaten. It's a must hit for dinner next time out there..
Anyways next year I'm gonna drag the KLR out there in the truck and do some fire roads and camping.

Ride to Tower Park, Peoria Heights.
The plan for today was to ride to the Serena cafe for breakfast and go to Peoria to find Tower Park. The meeting spot was different then where we usually group up at, which wasn't bad but some one crashed on RT47 and a few people had to reroute to get to the shell. That's not easy when you don't know a area. Also sorry for the bad estimate on time frame for the ride, hope you all enjoyed it and thanks for putting up with me guys and girls. :)
Once we arrived at Serena we found the cafe closed. Sad but they had a sign on the door that it was only so they too could take a break and go on vacation. We just rode to Ottawa and stopped at the Bee Hive which was fine, just not so quaint.

This tower Park very cool view and one scary elevator. The elevator is all glass and makes some bad sounds.
It's actually a old water tower for Pabst blue ribbon beer. There gone now due to a fire in the 80's.

The weather was Great all day except for a little sprinkle, it looked way worse.

Thats the top of the elevator all the way down there.
These little guys were all over the top deck. They look like bees but acted like flies. very docile, so much so I was joking with Jim that we could pet them. When I tried it didn't care.
The Burger Barge was the lunch stop and we rolled in and it was a little busy. I begged the guys to sit inside so we could watch some of the Indy 500 they had playing on the big screen. Food was OK, but the wait was very long. It was still fun.
These last two photos crack me up. There both in desperate need of a Caption. Just leave it in the comments!!

They were not fighting but it sure looks like it!!
